What is RF microneedling?

RF microneedling, short for radiofrequency microneedling, combines two techniques: very fine needles that create controlled micro-channels in the skin, and radiofrequency energy delivered as controlled heat into the deeper layers through those needles.

This combination is designed to prompt the skin’s natural repair response, which is linked to the renewal of collagen and elastin. Because much of the energy is directed beneath the surface, it is often chosen for concerns that sit deeper than surface texture alone.

Unlike standard microneedling, which works through the micro-channels alone, RF microneedling adds heat, and it usually involves a little more redness and recovery time. It is not automatically the better option for every skin: Taise will explain which treatment suits your skin and goals.

What is the difference between RF microneedling and microneedling?

Both treatments use fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. RF microneedling also delivers radiofrequency energy as controlled heat into the deeper layers, and it usually involves a little more redness and recovery time. Neither is right for everyone, so Taise will recommend the option that suits your skin after your consultation.

Does RF microneedling hurt?

The treatment is often described as a warm, prickling sensation, and a numbing cream may be applied beforehand. Comfort varies depending on the area treated and your skin sensitivity, and this will be discussed during your consultation.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on your skin, concerns and goals. A course of treatments spaced several weeks apart is often recommended, and Taise will suggest a personalised plan after assessing your skin.

Is there any downtime?

Redness, mild swelling and sensitivity are common for a few days after treatment, and small marks may be visible for a short time. You will receive aftercare guidance to help support your skin.

When might I notice a difference?

Some clients notice a fresher-looking appearance as the skin settles, while changes in texture or firmness tend to develop gradually over the following weeks and months. Results vary from person to person.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Like any skin treatment, RF microneedling carries some risk. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness and pinpoint marks are the most common effects. Less often, there may be temporary changes in skin colour (more likely in deeper skin tones), breakouts or a cold sore flare, and rarely burns, scarring or loss of fat beneath the skin. Taise will go through the risks with you before any treatment.

Can RF microneedling be used on darker skin tones?

Taise treats clients with a wide range of skin tones, including Black and brown skin. Because much of the energy is delivered beneath the surface, RF microneedling is often considered for deeper skin tones. No treatment is free of risk, though: darker skin can be more prone to temporary changes in pigmentation after treatment. Taise will ask about your skin’s history, such as previous pigmentation or scarring, and plan your treatment and aftercare around your skin.

Is RF microneedling suitable for everyone?

No. It may not be recommended during pregnancy, with an active skin infection or inflammation in the area, a tendency to keloid scarring, or certain medical conditions, implants or medications. Your skin type and full medical history will be reviewed at your consultation before anything is recommended.
